COURSE DESCRIPTION

Bloodgood Law Enforcement Training Group is excited to announce we will be holding our inaugural training conference at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey April 14 through April 16, 2026. Over the course of three days, we will be presenting a variety of exciting topics that will broaden the knowledge base of all attendees, no matter what their assignment is. Some conference highlights include:

Hunting a Cop Killer: The Murder of Officer Christopher Matlosz. On January 14, 2011, Officer Christopher Matlosz was gunned down as he sat in his patrol car. The murder of Officer Matlosz sent shockwaves throughout New Jersey and beyond. How could this have happened? Who could have done this? Captain Casey Long and Captain Leroy Marshall will present a firsthand account of the investigation that brought Officer Matlosz’s killer to justice and the lessons learned.

Introduction into Financial Crimes: Presented by Captain Mark Malinowski. Money is the common denominator in almost all crimes, but many of us lack the skills to conduct a proper investigation. This segment will provide an introduction into financial crimes investigative methods and trends utilized to engage in crimes of theft by deception, embezzlement, counterfeit checks, credit card fraud, identity theft, elder fraud, contractor fraud, cryptocurrency, and money laundering.

Open-Source Investigation Basics: This segment is tailored to elevate the law enforcement professional’s investigative prowess through the strategic utilization of open-source intelligence (OSINT). Covering fundamental principles, cutting-edge tools, and ethical considerations, participants will master techniques such as social media monitoring and online searches.

Effective Interview Techniques: No matter what your assignment is, the goal is to gather reliable and relevant information when speaking to people. Mastering the art of interviewing takes time and patience. Led by Lt. Erik Baum (Ret.) this block of instruction will transform and enhance the way you conduct victim/witness interviews and criminal suspect interrogations. During the session you will learn some effective methods to interview victims of crimes, witnesses of crimes to extract the most reliable information, while learning how to detect deception so you can obtain confessions legally and ethically from individuals who are withholding the truth.

Legal Update: Presented by Allen Bloodgood. Known for his interactive teaching style and ability to break down complex case law into to easy to understand examples, Allen will provide a comprehensive update on all relevant changes in case law, Title 2C, Attorney Geral Guidelines and Use of Force.

Current Drug Trend: An overview of the current drug trafficking landscape, current drug trends, how to conduct systematic vehicle searches, including how to detect motorized hidden compartments.
